Who we are

YYZ Law (“YYZ Law”, “we”, “us” or “our”) is a Toronto law firm focused on Canadian aviation and travel law. This policy explains how we handle personal information collected through our website, yyzlaw.com (the “Site”). We are committed to handling personal information in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and other applicable Canadian privacy laws.

This policy covers the Site only. Personal information we receive in the course of providing legal services is governed by our engagement terms and our professional obligations of confidentiality.

Information we collect

Information you give us. When you use our contact form, we collect your name, email address, the subject of your enquiry and anything you write in your message. If you email or call us directly, we receive the information you choose to share.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our hosting provider records basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, to deliver the Site and keep it secure. If you accept analytics cookies, we also collect information about how you use the Site, such as the pages you view, how long you stay, the referring website, and your general location (city or country), device and browser.

Please don’t send confidential information through the contact form.

Contacting us through the Site does not create a lawyer-client relationship. Until we have confirmed that we can act for you, please don’t share confidential or time-sensitive details of your matter.

How we use your information

  • To respond to your enquiry and communicate with you.
  • To check for conflicts of interest before we agree to act for you.
  • To operate, secure and maintain the Site, and to prevent spam and abuse.
  • With your consent, to understand how visitors use the Site so we can improve it.
  • To meet our legal and professional obligations.

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Cookies and analytics

We use PostHog, an analytics service, to understand how visitors use the Site. Analytics only runs if you click Accept in our cookie banner. Until you do, no analytics cookies are set and no usage data is collected. If you decline, we simply remember that choice in your browser.

Our Contact page includes an embedded Google Map. Google may set its own cookies when the map loads; its use of that information is governed by Google’s privacy policy.

You can change your analytics choice at any time:

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The Site works the same whether or not you accept analytics cookies.

Service providers

We share personal information only with service providers that help us run the Site, and only as needed for them to do so:

  • Vercel: hosts the Site.
  • Resend: delivers contact form submissions to our inbox.
  • PostHog: provides website analytics, only if you consent.
  • Google: provides the map on our Contact page.

Some of these providers store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be accessible to courts, law enforcement and national security authorities under the laws of that country. We may also disclose personal information where required or permitted by law.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiries for as long as needed to respond to you and to meet our legal, professional and record-keeping obligations. If you become a client, your information is kept in accordance with our file-retention practices. Analytics data is kept in aggregated or de-identified form where possible. We use reasonable physical, organizational and technical safeguards to protect personal information, but no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure.

Your rights

You may ask to access the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent to our use of it, subject to legal and professional restrictions. To make a request, contact us using the details below. We will respond within the time required by law.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
