NAV CANADA

NAV CANADA, created in 1996 through the combined efforts of commercial air carriers, general aviation, the Government of Canada, as well as their employees and unions is the world’s first fully privatized, not-for-profit civil air navigation service provider.
NAV CANADA owns and operates Canada’s civil air navigation service (ANS) and whose revenues are derived from aviation customers. Managing 18 million square kilometers of Canadian and oceanic airspace and with 40,000 customers and 3.3 million flights a year, they are one of the largest Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) by total Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) flight hours.

NAV CANADA provides air navigation services to the commercial and general aviation industry in Canadian-controlled airspace. Such services include air traffic control, flight information, weather briefings, aeronautical information, airport advisory services and electronic aids to navigation. The costs for the provision or availability of air navigation services are recovered through a system of service charges levied on aircraft operators.

Safety is their first priority, their record now among the best in the world. The customers and the service provided are the focus of operations. Efforts are directed to helping them improve their flight efficiency and providing cost effective services. In doing so, NAV CANADA helps to reduce the impact of aviation activity on the environment.
